Non-Alcoholic Fatty Disease

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Disease is a condition in which excess fat has been stored in the liver. The cause of this condition is unknown and is still very common.

Causes of Fatty Liver

Liver is the largest solid organ and the largest gland that plays a vital role in the functioning of the body. It carries out nearly 500 tasks in the body with the most important ones being processing of the blood and handling the digestive system by releasing of bile to break down proteins and fats into fatty acids in the small intestine.

When excess calories are consumed and liver is not able to process fat as it should, it starts to accumulate fat. This condition is further accelerated by having morbidities such as overweight, diabetes, obesity, etc. The symptoms include Abdominal pain, Nausea, Weakness, jaundice, etc. which can lead to Cirrhosis, causing liver failure or liver cancer.

Stages of Liver Damage

While there is no cure or medical treatment available against a fatty liver disease, certain lifestyle changes such as exercising, losing weight, diet, controlling diabetes, can prevent the damage or reverse the disease to an extent. Change in lifestyle is a must to cope up from this disease.

Having a body composition analyzer assesses the levels of fat, weight, obesity, nutrition and helps in bringing about lifestyle changes that can contain the fatty liver disease and other morbidities. It is also advised to undergo a detailed analysis if any of the above symptoms are felt.
